These food items are not only delicious but also have many health benefits.  Egyptian dishes are low in saturated fats and rich in healthy oils, making them a good health option.

What is Special About Egyptian Food?

Egyptian food has a distinct identity, shaped by the country’s rich history and vibrant culinary influences.

    Egyptian cuisine

It uses basic foods such as rice, bread, legumes, and vegetables and often includes fava beans, lentils, and spices.

Egyptian cuisine also incorporates ingredients from North Africa, the Mediterranean, and the Middle East, adding to its vividness.

    Healthy Egyptian food recipes:

I tested egypt recipes.I can’t express how good and nutritious Egyptian meals were; my family loved them.  Here are my most favorite dishes from Egypt.

    Salatet Zabadee (Egyptian Cucumber Salad):

I remember the first time I tried Salatet Zabadee, I loved its refreshing taste and coolness.

This Egyptian-style cucumber salad is a perfect dish made with mint and worth enjoying with any meal on hot days.

    Salatet Zabadee (Egyptian Cucumber Salad)

Cucumber and curd are both cold, so together, they make a good summer salad.

This salad is not only tasty but also very beneficial for health.  Cucumber and curd contain essential nutrients that strengthen our bodies.

Therefore, Salateet Zabadi is a good option for those who prioritize health over taste.  I often enjoy this salad with my family, and we like it very much.

    Ingredients:

    • 1 cucumber, chopped
    • 1 cup curd
    • 4-5 mint leaves, chopped
    • Salt according to taste
    • Olive oil for garnish
    • Paprika for garnish

    Method of preparation:

    1. To make Salatet Zabadee, grate the cucumber and keep it aside for 15 minutes.
    2. After that, whisk the curd in a separate bowl till it becomes smooth.
    3. Then, drain the water from the grated cucumber and mix it with the curd.
    4. Add chopped mint and salt to taste.
    5. The salad is ready!  Now serve it on a platter and garnish it with olive oil and paprika.

Enjoy this delicious and cool salad with your family!

    Bissara; Split fava beans dip:

I love Bissara!  This Egyptian dish is not only affordable but also nutritious and easy to make. I loved its taste and health benefits the first time I tried it.

    Bissara; Split fava beans dip

Falafel lovers will definitely love this dish!  It combines taste and health with simple ingredients. Now, I often make Bissara with my family, and we all love it!

Bissara is a vegan recipe made by boiling split beans, onions, garlic and fresh herbs.  I used to sauté the onions and garlic first, then add the rest of the ingredients and boil the beans till they were tender.

But this time I adopted the method of boiling everything directly and made the recipe easy!

    Ingredients:

    • 1 cup split fava beans (soaked for 1 hour)
    • 1 small onion, quartered
    • 3 garlic cloves
    • 1 tsp ground cumin
    • 1 tsp dried mint
    • Salt to taste
    • Fresh parsley, cilantro, and dill (chopped)
    • 2-3 cups water
    • Oil for frying onion

    Instructions:

    1. Boil soaked fava beans with onion, garlic, cumin, mint, and salt until tender.
    2. Blend the boiled mixture with fresh herbs.
    3. Fry chopped onion until golden and crispy.
    4. Serve Bissara with fried onion on top.

    Mallow Leaf Soup (Khobiza):

Khobiza (Mallow Leaf Soup) is a very nutritious and tasty option that can benefit your health in many ways.

The vitamins A, C and K present in it nourish your body and have anti-inflammatory elements which reduce swelling.

    Mallow Leaf Soup (Khobiza)

This soup also strengthens the digestive system and relieves constipation.

Apart from this, vitamin C and antioxidants enhance the body’s disease resistance capacity and keep the skin and hair healthy.  Khobiza is such a healthy and tasty option that it can add a new color to your meal!

Khobiza, i.e. Mallow Leaf Soup reminds me of Egyptian cuisine!  Not only is this dish nutritious, but its rich green color and earthy taste give me peace while eating hot food.  It becomes even more of a favorite during the colder months.

The first time I tried this soup, I loved its taste and healthy elements.  The use of mallow leaves in it, sometimes combined with Swiss chard, makes a rich and hearty soup.

I serve it with roti or rice, and my family loves it!  This recipe will help you, too, make this classic dish step-by-step.

    Ingredients:

    • Fresh hibiscus (mallow) leaves – 1 packet
    • Swiss chard – 1 bunch, peeled
    • Soya – 1 small bunch, finely chopped
    • Green coriander – 1 small bunch, finely chopped
    • Rice – ¼ cup, washed and rinsed
    • Oil – 1 large spoon
    • Salt – as per taste

    Instructions:

    1. Cut the size of the mallow leaves after washing them.
    2. After washing, set aside the Swiss chard.
    3. Swiss chard and mallow leaves should be combined in a big bowl.
    4. Add the chopped green coriander and fresh dill.
    5. Over the mixture, distribute the soaked rice.
    6. Cook over low heat after adding water and heating the mixture until it boils.
    7. For the rice to be cooked and the mixture to stay together, keep stirring constantly.
    8. Add the rice to the broth after it has been fried in ghee and oil till golden brown in a different pan.
    9. Sprinkle the soup with salt and simmer, stirring constantly, until it thickens.
    10. Alongside the rice, serve hot vermicelli or roti.

In Egyptian culture, Khobiza is a soothing soup of winter that brings a sense of community.

Its nourishment makes it eternal.  By making Khobiza, you relive a nourishing experience handed down from ancestors. It’s one of the best Egyptian foods for kids.

    Conclusion:

Traditional Egyptian food, which includes whole grains, vegetables, legumes, and herbs, provides many health benefits, such as improved digestion, increased digestive capacity, and reduced risk of chronic diseases, making it a nutritious and balanced dietary option.  I too include Egyptian food in my daily routine meals, and it is very beneficial for good health.
